HUB Cycling Community Events 2020 Update

March 24, 2020

*Article updated 04/23 to include mention of 'Go By Bike Week' digital series of events for May 2020

After careful consideration, and following Provincial and Federal advice surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we have taken the decision to postpone some of our key community events and programs for 2020.

Go by Bike digital event series*

Our Spring 2020 event will be moving online and will be renamed 'Go By Bike Week'. A digital series of events will be launched soon and will take place from May 25th to 31st 2020.

Bike to Work and Bike to School Weeks

HUB Cycling’s traditional Spring Bike to Work Week and Bike to School Week will be postponed from May 25th-31st until September 2020. There will be no Fall Bike to Work Week in 2020; instead we will plan a single event in September 2020. We are cautiously optimistic that we will be able to organize one of our largest Bike to Work Weeks to date. Watch this space for updates!

Bike the Night
HUB Cycling’s annual Bike the Night in it’s traditional format will be taking a hiatus in 2020. We are currently investigating different formats of the event to continue the tradition of celebrating cycling and opening up our streets. Watch this space for updates and contact us if you have ideas!

Bike to Shop Days
We will be working with community partners to host our Bike to Shop Days this year at existing community events. These are currently postponed until late Summer/Early Fall 2020.

Bike Shorts
Our annual Bike Shorts event traditionally takes place in November. We will review this event later in 2020.

Bike to School & Everyone Rides Grade 4-5
As schools around BC are currently suspended, we have also suspended our bike to school education courses, including Everyone Rides Grade 4-5 for the forseeable future. They will resume when school resumes or thereafter.

Streetwise
Like our other community events, Streetwise cycling courses for the public are suspended until further notice, and will resume when social/physical distancing measures end.

We will communicate any further changes as they occur. The health and safety of our community is a key priority. At this time, we encourage everyone to be mindful of their community and the challenges everyone is facing during the outbreak: please follow the protocols laid out by the Public Health Agency of Canada. Stay healthy, active and look after each other.

In the meantime, we are working on devising new ways to engage our passionate cycling communities online and keeping our communities cycling safely during this time. We are looking forward to celebrating with all of you in metro Vancouver’s bike lanes in the near future and to continue our regular programming soon: the resiliency of cycling is what is keeping us motivated!
