Position Summary:
We are hiring several instructors to join our growing Bike Education team. Under the direction of the Bike Education Organizing Team and Director of Bike Education, Bike Education Instructors work on a seasonal basis (March - November) and teach a variety of courses. New instructors will primarily work on Bike to School programs, which are delivered in elementary and middle schools and take place during the school day. The work can be fairly physical and requires enthusiasm and high levels of energy.
We are also looking for "Bike Bus" Instructor staff living in the cities of West Vancouver, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Langley, Burnaby and Richmond.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Set up and deliver HUB educational courses in a professional, enthusiastic and fun manner;
- Transport program equipment such as bikes, micro-mobility vehicles, helmets, and other course gear;
- Motivate diverse youth and maintain their engagement during in-class and on-bike course delivery;
- Encourage youth and other program participants to see cycling as a viable mode of transportation;
- Ensure all program documents (ie. waivers) are completed and submitted in a timely manner;
- Communicate consistently and promptly with supervisors regarding scheduling, course feedback, and any incidents that occur while on-site;
- Maintain safety and risk mitigation practices.
You are someone who:
- Believes in the benefits of riding a bike and micro mobility for transportation;
- Is confident riding a bicycle in urban environments;
- Enjoys working with children aged 2-5, youth aged 8-14; options for adults;
- Is adaptable, friendly, people-focused and works well as part of a team;
- Is confident and enthusiastic when instructing groups of varying sizes in the classroom and outdoors;
- Is adaptable and flexible: can adjust teaching style to different learners’ needs;
- Can interact professionally with school staff members, parents and volunteers;
- Is friendly, patient and works well as part of a team; valuing open and proactive communication with teammates and supervisors.
Required Qualifications:
- Standard First Aid certification + AED & CPR - C, or willingness to self-organise and obtain before March 30.
- Bike Right certified, or available to participate in the Advance Your Ride course scheduled for the weekend of Mid-March 2025 (9am - 5pm, both days).
- Clear criminal record check for the vulnerable sector;
- Available to work during the upcoming spring season (March 2 - June 27);
- Flexible weekday schedule or can commit to all-day availability on specific weekdays.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading programs for children & youth;
- You live in the cities of: West Vancouver, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Langley, Burnaby and Richmond;
Valid BC driver’s licence and comfort driving a full-size van for equipment transportation.
Terms:
This is a seasonal position. Number of shifts vary from week to week depending on programming needs. Instructors must be willing to travel within Metro Vancouver to instruct courses (owning a vehicle is not required), and can expect some early morning start times for travel to program locations. Successful candidates may continue on to teach in summer (July and August) and fall (September to November) and successive seasons. Course fees for Standard First Aid and Advance Your Ride (discount provided) are the responsibility of participants.
Start date: Paid training will take place mid- late March
Pay: Starting wage is $25.79/hr + 8% in lieu of vacation pay, with a wage increase possible after completion of first year.
