  • I'm really thrilled to see the focus on the AAA cycling path on Beach Avenue

    Meeting Date:

Report to Council on Imagine West End Waterfront Parks, Beaches and Transportation Vision

Circling back on the Beach Avenue... and the two-way vehicular traffic, could you just reflect to me in terms of phasing this contemplated in phase one, but I'm really thrilled to see the focus on the AAA cycling path, ... but I'm curious how you would phase that transition of having, so the, I guess what I'm trying to get at, if you're moving to two-way, would you be moving the bike path or would the bike path be prioritized first before shifting traffic so there's no disruptions, so there's that continuity? Because it's been wildly popular, it's a fantastic addition to the city, and I see it's contemplated that it's actually enhanced through this, but would you make sure that that cycling infrastructure goes first and then the two-waying, is that how that would work?

  • Will construction of a AAA bike lane be prioritized in the Beach Avenue 2-way traffic plan?

    Meeting Date:

Report to Council on Imagine West End Waterfront Parks, Beaches and Transportation Vision

I think prioritizing the pedestrian and the cycling infrastructure should be the first thing. On the, I want to go back to Pacific Avenue because I gather that, and the maps addressing that infrastructure is a priority in this plan. I don't see, it's not till later, and I'm curious if there's any way to be doing that infrastructure at the same time as we're looking at the beach.
And so again, prioritizing that infrastructure network, which we're trying to do across the region, not just in Vancouver. Could that be done in phase one?

  • We want a dedicated active transportation lane along Powell street right now

    Meeting Date:

Transportation, Public Space and Street Use Update

I did want to touch on tangentially related subject of bus service along Powell from the Powell Overpass over to Nanaimo and the intersect with active transportation.

I know staff are actively working to address the gap in that network, but what I see right now is if we're wanting to implement a dedicated lane along that route and we want active transportation, right now, I think the proposal staff are proposing deals with Wall Street, but doesn't actually deal with Powell. How will that work together? Because it's a very narrow corridor, it's heavily used by industry and I don't know that we've found the sweet spot around this and I'm really curious if we're going to maybe re-envision that work around the active transportation in the context of wanting to have dedicated public transit and dedicated lanes along that corridor.
