2-way traffic on Beach Ave. West of Denman will be beneficial for residents and businesses and we'll also have new separated cycling infrastructure
Meeting Date:
Report to Council on Imagine West End Waterfront Parks, Beaches and Transportation Vision
I can't support the amendment to the amendment. And I just want to thank Councillor Bly for her questions to staff, clarifying the infrastructure improvements that can be made here. I think it's fantastic that we can accommodate safely the separated cycling facility that from what we hear from staff is that it will be more comfortable for cyclists and safer with the new pedestrian crossings that would be installed as part of these upgrades.
It is quite precarious for pedestrians crossing there and also as a cyclist passing through there without pedestrian lights at those crossings. So it really seems like we can have it all in this particular section. We can have a two-way traffic, which is how it existed before the temporary bike lane, which was a measure during the pandemic and a welcome one, which I know is very popular and I enjoy riding it myself, but these improvements sound even better.
We're going to have a return to two-way traffic, which will be beneficial for residents and businesses there. I know it's been a bit challenging for them having only one way out of their buildings, for example, and also there is a quite a popular hotel there as well, but we'll also have this new separated cycling infrastructure. So from my perspective, this is a win for everybody.
And also that the infrastructure, pardon me, the intersection changes that Davie and Denman will create more park space. So all around, I think this aspect of the plan is fantastic. And for that reason, I can't support this amendment by Councilor Boyle.
